5E DM'S GUIDE: ROLLING MAGIC WEAPONS

Chapter 7 of the 5th edition Dungeon Master's Guide is all about magic items and treasure.

Chapter 7 of the 5th edition Dungeon Master's Guide is all about magic items and treasure. It is an extremely useful chapter, supplying a DM with all kinds of random treasure tables to satisfy their loot goblins as well as a list of powerful magic items for use in game.

Possibly overlooked; chapter 7 also introduces tables to further develop magic items and artifacts with various minor properties, quirks, and other special features. DMs can roll on these tables to expand on the more generic magic items included in this chapter, creating a depth and character that really brings a magical creation to life.

The below generator was designed to easily roll a unique magic item by using all of the tables from chapter 7 of the 5th edition Dungeon Master's Guide at once. This includes the tables reserved for artifacts. It only has the standard weapon types included, but one could use any of these features for shields, armor, or wondrous items as well.

Of course, add and subtract from the generator's results. Use them as a foundation to build a magic weapon that doesn't only smite your players' foes, but also explores the lore and themes of the story you as a DM are telling.

To prove it, I've included three fleshed out magic items using results from the generator above as the starting inspiration. Feel free to download the included pdfs and use them in your games!
